John Clem CLARKE Print "Door to the Sea" "Door to the Sea" by John Clem Clarke is a typically wry image by the artist who uses Photo-Realist & illustration techniques fused with Pop Art imagery. The print is pencil-signed and numbered from a very limited print edition of only 5. The prin t is taken from a maquette--a working model from which Clarke makes his large paintings. So, it has the freshness of a work in process. The maquette is "retired" by snipping off a corner after the print edition is run. Learn more about John Clem Clarke's painting process by visiting his Soho studio. The print is reworked slightly by the artist after printing; the signed print is laminated in a plastic sheath, so it can be exhibited on a tabletop as well as on a wall. Charles HEWITT Composite Painting "Black Rooster" The title of Charles Hewitt's composite painting "Black Rooster" refers to betrayal. In this very new composite work, Hewitt first paints a small oil on canvas. He then makes a grid enlargement of the image in many pieces. These acetate rectangles are stitched together on a sewing machine. The result is a "real" painting and a sort of "false" expanded play on that painting. The side by side impact is fascinating. Hewitt's work is represented in major collections such as : The MetropolitanM useum of Art (NYC), The Museum of Modern Art (NYC), The Library of Congress (DC), MIT--List Visual Arts Center (MA), The Brooklyn Museum & Chase Manhattan Bank (NYC). Buyer pays shipping and insurance. View more Hewitt graphics and paintings for sale. To learn more about the artist and his shorthand icons, see Charles Hewitt studio visit. John Clem CLARKE Painting "Ship in Fog" John Clem Clarke uses familiar objects as subjects for his paintings. Clarke is usually grouped with the photo-realists. While technically accurate, (he does work from combinations of photos using realistic images), this description fails to convey how much Clarke likes to play with paint and traditional painting concepts. In "Ship in Fog" there is a tension between the cheerful colors and the perilous situation. The looming ship harks back to posters from the glamorous era of ocean crossings on the Normandy. Clarke has an extensive museum collection, public commissions and auction record pedigree. (Recent auction prices range from about $2000-$18,000). The Museum of Modern Art (New York), Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), Whitne y Museum of American Art (New York) and the Los Angeles County Museum all have examples of his work in their collections. Visit John Clem Clarke's Soho studio. Buyer pays shipping and insurance.  [501923]
