Description:
The title of Charles Hewitt's composite painting "Black Rooster" refers to betrayal. In this very new composite work, Hewitt first paints a small oil on canvas. He then makes a grid enlargement of the image in many pieces. These acetate rectanglesare stitched together on a sewing machine. The result is a "real" painting and a sort of "false" expanded play on that painting. The side by side impact is fascinating. Hewitt's work is represented in major collections such as : The MetropolitanMuseum of Art (NYC), The Museum of Modern Art (NYC), The Library of Congress (DC), MIT--List Visual Arts Center (MA), The Brooklyn Museum & Chase Manhattan Bank (NYC).
