Continuing James Burnett's "Lost Cities" series, the 2003-2005 "Wilbur Flats" group are gestural paintings mining further the vein of Abstract Expressionism that began with the New York School painters of the 40's and 50's.
Inspired by idealized landscapes of the mind and Chinese calligraphy, these new James Burnett's are bold oil paintings on canvas and rich gouaches and watercolors on heavy paper.
