Description: In spring 2005, James Burnett added several watercolors to his long-running "Lost Cities" & "Wilbur Flats" series of paintings whose subject is idealized places--civilizations of the mind. Over time, this series has ranged from small works on paper to large oils, all with abstracted landscape structure. The "Wilbur Flats" images are painted with a few confident strokes that place Burnett firmly in the camp of the gestural abstract painters. With simplicity and conviction, Burnett distills painting to its vital essence. Violet, green, black and red, "Abstract Expressionist #2" is painted in watercolor. This small scale work on paper piece forms a nice pair with a related painting Abstract Expressionist #4. Framing is available for this work. Please email or phone for options and pricing details.
