Description: Contemporary sculptor Javier Astorga melds European and Mexican artistic traditions for inspiration in making his metal figurative sculpture. In a recent series of works, "La Huasteca desnudo del tiempo (The Huastecs Removed from Time)" Astorga studies ancient masks, statues and images, then brings them to life again using contemporary materials. "The Teenager (El adolescente)" refers to an well-known Huastec figure of a youth. "The Teenager" is a jaunty, life-size presence in welded steel with natural oxidation.
