Description: In this painting, contemporary faux-naïf artist Michael Eastman uses product images (like this Ronzoni pasta box), words and figures as though they were abstract elements. Eastman often uses graffiti-like writing and faux-primitive marks in making his paintings. Since he enjoys aping the look of naive art, we place him in that category. But, Eastman's approach to his work is extremely cerebral--not at all the visceral spontaneity typical of a naif or outsider artist. Detail. Figure detail. Writing detail.
