Description:
HOLD. As the title "Summer Warbler" suggests, Nancy Van Deren's painting is influenced by nature--but in a distilled, abstract sense. (Since 1993 Van Deren has lectured at the Isamu Noguchi Museum; it shows in the elegant spareness of her panel paintings.) Van Deren likes to paint, scrape away & repaint purposely leaving hints of her thought process in these heavily worked panels. (The medium is gouache on pre-gessoed panels.) Van Deren has taught at Rhode Island School of Design (the mostrecentcourse was entitled Nature: Dead or Alive?) and also at University of California at Berkeley. Van Deren's exhibition history includes: Whitney Museum Annuals (NYC), Parrish Art Museum (Southhampton, NY), Jo Rain Gallery (Dublin, Ireland) and SarahRentschler Gallery (NYC). Please email for a larger, higher resolution photo of this work. Buyer pays shipping and insurance. Visit Nancy Van Deren's Tribeca (NYC)studio.
