19th Century Fabric Swatch Books
During the 19th century, French fabric mills--especially those
near Lyon in south-central France-- were famed for the superb
quality of their textile production. The sample books being sold through Biddington's include hundreds of examples of these glorious fabrics.
The antique fabric swatch books include designs for both home decor
and for fashion fabrics-many of the fabrics made by the jacquard
looms of Lyon.
Within the home and fashion textile design industry, these fabric
samples are treasured as a source both of instruction and of
inspiration. (As a result, individual swatches sell for hundreds of
dollars a piece.)
The fabrics in the books being offered are in very good condition.
The books themselves are deteriorating from constant use over the
past 100-200 years.
French Textile Prints Designs for Home Furnishings
These 75 pieces of original art were produced within the past 10
years. They represent a broad range of designs for an array of decorative home fabrics. The format is watercolor and gouache on poster board.
They are actual size with a 27" X 27" image and are designed for a 27" X 27" repeat.
Textile Prints for Fashion
More than 1500 original pieces of recent art for the fashion industry
are also being offered for sale. These works of watercolor, poster
paint and gouache were produced in France, England and Italy. They
vary in size from 11" X 14" to 30" X 24". These works are available
in minimum batches of 100 pieces.
