Description: A fascination with the sciences appears in Garrison Buxton's art--both in creation and naming. Buxton's inventive painting process, "flash printing", requires a sound knowledge of the chemistry of inks and paints. Buxton's paintings are as much spontaneous as contrived. In this bold painting, the surface color varies enormously in its character: sometimes lusciously smooth and sometimes splintering into fractals. View detail of "Shell Game in NGC 300". This work and its title refer, in the poetic rather than the literal sense, to a galaxy in the constellation Sculptor. Oklahoma-born, Garrison Buxton is a recent graduate of Pratt Institute where he currently teaches printmaking. Buxton's studio is in New York City. View more Garrison Buxton paintings. | |
