Description: A fascination with the sciences appears in Garrison Buxton's art--both in creation and naming. Buxton's inventive painting process, "flash printing", requires a sound knowledge of the chemistry of inks and paints. Buxton's paintings are as much spontaneous as contrived. In certain areas, the surface color of this painting breaks into fractal-like shapes detail of "Unusual Gullies and Channels on Mars II". This work and its title refer to recent photographic images of the red planet's topography--but in the poetic rather than the literal sense. Oklahoma-born, Garrison Buxton is a recent graduate of Pratt Institute where he currently teaches printmaking. Buxton's studio is in New York City. View more Garrison Buxton paintings. | |
