Description: Innovative kinetic sculptor Rein Triefeldt's sculpture "Condor's Nest" is the maquette--or study--for a proposed large-scale wind-driven sculpture. This free-standing bronze with natural oxidation patina moves with the touch of a hand or in the wind; its scale makes it suitable as a substantial interior artwork or as a garden sculpture. The form of this particular work relates to Triefeldt's current sculpture series in which he uses solar panels both as sculptural elements and also as the means of propulsion. Triefeldt's kinetic bronzes reside in public, corporate and private collections in the United States, Canada, the Netherlands and Hong Kong. A Triefeldt "Flyer" sculpture was featured at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics; two works by Rein Triefeldt appeared in the 2003 Dutch Biennial of kinetic sculpture. The December 2003 issue of the magazine "Sculpture" discusses Rein Triefeldt's work--especially the artist's recent forays into the world of large-scale solar kinetic sculpture.
