Description: Contemporary sculptor Javier Astorga reconciles European and Mexican artistic traditions in his figurative sculpture. In a recent series of works, "La Huasteca desnudo del tiempo (The Huastecs Removed from Time)" Astorga studied ancient masks, statues and images from the Huastec people of western Mexico. This assemblage sculpture actually incorporates a contemporary Huastec carved wooden mask. Spiritually forceful and visually intriguing, the tactile painted carving plays in an interesting way against the hard steel & stressed wire. "Dream of the Architect" effectively suggests the intersection of creativity with the physical fulfullment of an idea. This artwork is appropriate as an interior sculpture--on a pedestal or in a niche.
