Description: Contemporary sculptor Javier Astorga melds European and Mexican artistic traditions for inspiration in making his metal figurative sculpture. In a recent series of works, "La Huasteca desnudo del tiempo (The Huastecs Removed from Time)" Astorga studies ancient masks and images, then brings them to life again using contemporary materials. "Hueyatl Face (Rostro de Hueyatl )" refers to a great sea. Made in metal with some patina and some natural oxidation this scupture seems part European Diana image and part ancient Huastec sea god.
