Description:
Since the late 1990's, Mary Teresa Giancoli has been producing a series of photographs documenting the culture of the Mexican community--both in Mexico and in New York City. In 2001, Giancoli followed a pilgrimage by caravan from Atlixco (in Puebla) to the Basilica of Mexico City to record the original journey in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe. The Virgin of Guadalupe, a dark-skinned goddess who combines elements of the Aztec Tonantzin with the Spanish Catholic Virgin Mary, is the guardian mother of all Mexicans who are indigenous, mestizo and Spanish. Giancoli prints her photographs in limited editions of 20 or fewer. View all available works by Giancoli. Visit Mary Teresa GIANCOLI's studio. |
