Since visit to Turkey in the late 1990's, Diane Churchill's art has been influenced by the opulent colors of the East and by imagery from matriarchal cultures rich with goddess representations. In her 2001-2002 series of paintings on paper, Churchill has become increasingly abstract exploring the shimmering colors and rich textures of Asia but with less specific historical references.
