In a series of highly worked paintings on panel that began in the late 1990's, abstract painter Nancy Van Deren explored ovid forms--the shapes of nature in the landscape. In late 2001 this vein seems to have reached a culmination in three larger canvas paintings. This one, entitled Conference is painted so thinly that each shape appears to be stained into the canvas.
