Description:
WITHDRAWN FROM SALE. (DCK) "Handstand" is a perfect sculpture for the collector who enjoys forms related to movement, athleticism and the dance. This exuberant figure is part of a series of bronze acrobats by Austrian born, American expressionist sculptor Chaim Gross (1904-1991). The artwork's sense of excitement and energy is enhanced by its mounting on a removable, pivoting wooden base. View bronze figure in motion. View figure from above. A delightful, small scale bronze, this sculpture is suitable for a tabletop, mantlepiece or free-standing pedestal. Without the removable wooden base, this metal figure would also be appropriate as an garden sculpture or terrace ornament for an intimate outdoor space. The bronze is inscribed: Chaim Gross, dated 1967 and numbered 1/6. The sculpture also bears the foundry mark: Bedi-Rassy. View detail of signature and foundry markings. The provenance of this sculpture is: Forum Gallery (Chaim Gross' dealer of many years) and the Evelyn Sharp Estate. This sculpture will be included in the upcoming Chaim Gross catalogue raisonné under preparation by A. Paul of the Chaim Gross Studio Museum (NYC).
