Description: In her illusively beautiful painterly interiors, Vivian Tsao constructs space out of light. While Tsao's work might feel Impressionist, it is really more about subtle nuances of tone. Using her extraordinary understanding of light, Vivian Tsao can make a hallway feel like a complex landscape. "Hallway with Brown Doors" is typical of Tsao's recent work. In the past decade, Tsao has moved toward ever narrower tonal ranges and lower contrasts in her painting. Born in Taiwan, Vivian Tsao is represented in major collections including the Sun Ten Museum in Taiwan. Her work has been exhibited in such important venues as: Brooklyn Museum, Butler Instutute of American Art, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Taiwan Province Museum and Hewlett Gallery at Carnegie-Mellon.
