Description: Richard Heinrich usually sculpts in welded steel; however, this small-scale, beautifully refined piece "American Flyer" is a unique casting in bronze with a golden surface patina. This sculpture is a reworking of a 1976 steel piece of the same name. Heinrich's work began in geometric forms--he was heavily influenced by David Smith. In mid-career, Heinrich explored more curvilinear, organic shapes. His recent works mark a return to geometric, angular forms but with a much greater understanding of gesture and space. This piece is a gem. Sculptures by Richard Heinrich are on view in the collections of Grounds for Sculpture (Hamilton, NJ) and The Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY). Richard Heinrich is also represented in collections including: Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University, PepsiCo, General Electric, Chemical Bank and American Express.

The scale of this artwork makes it suitable for an interior or intimate garden space. Remember: Like a person, a sculpture energizes the area around it. So, it requires considerably more area than its footprint might indicate. Biddington's offers resources for help in siting, as well as transporting, sculpture.
