In the late1980's, contemporary realist artist Bill Murphy became known for his hugely successful series of large-scale charcoal portrait drawings. In the late 1990's, Bill Murphy turned to intricate drawings including complex images and personal iconography. In this large-scale work entitled "The Hanged Man", Murphy has drawn a mysterious, multi-layered image with a finish and refinement of concept that one usually expects from a major painting.
