Sigmund Abeles figurative lithograph Saddle Soap

Description: Expressive realist printmaker and painter Sigmund Abeles makes a practive of capturing unguarded moments, here the artist combines an English saddle and a bather in a print that has little to do with horses. This image entitled "Saddle Soap" from 1972 was listed in the catalogue of the retrospective of Sigmund Abeles prints at Bates College Museum of Art in 1999. Writing the catalogue essay, director Genetta McLean notes: "By the late 1970's Abeles had achieved national acclaim as a printmaker." As provocative and fresh an image as "Saddle Soap" explains Abeles' success. This signed and numbered lithograph is from an edition of 50.
